Ugandan incumbent President Yoweri Museveni has been declared winner of the presidential elections race by the electoral commission. Museveni garnered 5,617,503 votes equivalent to 60.7 per cent of the votes cast. His closest rival, Dr Kizza Besigye of the Forum for Democratic Change, managed 3, 270, 290 votes equivalent to 35.37 per cent of the total votes cast.
This victory means that the 71-year-old has won presidential polls on five occasions (1996, 2001, 2006, 2011, 2016). He will be ruling for another 5 years.
