A 13-year-old boy from Central Florida was playing XBox on Sunday night when his 18-year-old cousin cousin accidentally shot him in the back of the head after he had fallen off a hoverboard causing the gun he was holding to discharge. The victim, Lavardo Fisher, was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from his wound.
Fisher was visiting relatives in the area at the time of the shooting. The cousin who fired the weapon had reportedly found the loaded gun in a bedroom and started playing with it. Walter Morame, a 35-year-old resident at the house, was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Fisher was an eighth grader at Ocoee Middle School in Central Florida, where he stood out, teachers and coaches said, as both a student and athlete. Last year, he earned the Pop Warner All-American Scholar honor.
"When you think of Lavardo, you think, 'This is the kid I want my daughter to marry, this is the kid I want my daughter to go to prom with,'" Lo Wood, one of Fisher's coaches, told the Sentinel. "He was humble."
